Paul Sapin S.A.
Originally a family firm founded in 1889 in the tiny village of Lancié-en-Beaujolais, Maison Paul Sapin built a reputation for selecting excellent value wines from Beaujolais and the nearby Mâcon. In recent years under new owners, one being California-trained oenologist Thierry Coulon, Sapin is producing fine wines. In 1996, as part of their new direction, they entered an agreement with De Bortoli Wines of New South Wales, Australia, a company with a great reputation for wines of the Riverina and the Yarra Valley. The Riverina has the highest proportion of premium varietal fruit of any of the major inland grape growing regions producing Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc and increasing proportions of Merlot, Marsanne and Verdelho. The Yarra Valley, just an hour from Melbourne, is marginally warmer than Burgundy but cooler than Bordeaux. Cool climate viticulture and dedicated winemaking have created some of the best wines in Australia
