Argillae

Our estate stretches over an area of approximately 220 hectares north west of the city of Orvieto. The soil is clay and sand that in some hilly slopes make up the “calanchi”. These are deep and wide splits of soil created by erosion 2 million years ago. What makes the soil truly unique are fossils which enrich the soil with mineral components and then pass into the wine producing full-bodied wines with good acidity and the potential to age. On our estate, the vineyards themselves make up about 38 hectares at an altitude of 150 – 300 metres. All harvesting is by hand with a special dedication to minimal environmental impact while cultivating the vines. Our estate is also partly covered by woodlands featuring dense Mediterranean vegetation and many different animals and insects. And truffles!
