Winestillery Old Tom Gin Chioccioli Altadonna Family Estate

Italy

The Old Tom style of gin is slightly sweeter and richer than London Dry Gin. This type of gin was popular in 18th-century England but since fell out of favour. In recent years, Old Tom has been making a quiet comeback as craft gins proliferate around the globe. Winestillery makes small batches of excellent Old Tom gin in their 500-litre pot still. The nose is very fragrant with pleasing notes of lemon verbena, cucumber and nutmeg to complement the classic juniper aromas. Very lively on the palate with a smooth entry and excellent depth of herbal, orange peel, honeyed flavours. Finishes dry with a lingering fiery, peppery hint. A really flavourful gin that holds its own served neat or on the rocks. – JB
