As recently as the 1990s, a significant amount of Chilean Carménère was mistakenly thought to be Merlot. Both vines produce full-bodied wines with a smooth mouthfeel. The 2020 Cornellana Volcano Sedimentario Carménère is an excellent example of this supple texture. Its concentrated red-fruit core is upheld by ripe well-integrated tannins.
