This is a dense wine with intense aromas of green peppers and spices. It is a smooth, concentrated, full-bodied wine with a fine texture and was matured for nine months in oak. Mencía is believed to have originated in northwest Spain and is perfectly adapted to the mountain. It is the same as the Portuguese variety known as Jaen, common in Dao, and it is thought that pilgrims returning from Santiago de Compostela took it back to Portugal with them.
