Third and fourth generation dairymen, Nick and Peter Pentz run Groote Post, their vineyard in the Darling Hills on the Cape’s West Coast, approximately an hour’s drive north of Cape Town. It is a historic estate with a traditional Dutch gabled homestead dating back to 1808, and was originally a guarding post against cattle rustlers. The Pentz family originally owned a dairy business producing milk and delivering it direct-to-door in Cape Town. The family no longer have a dairy herd, but the 3000-hectare estate raises sheep and cattle, grows cereal crops and includes a restaurant, Hilda’s Kitchen, which serves their delicious homegrown produce. 117 hectares of vineyards are planted on cooler slopes on clay soils benefitting from the ocean breezes, with wines made by Lukas Wentzel.
Join us for a rare opportunity to spend an evening with an Opimian wine supplier. Nick will be travelling all the way from South Africa to spend time in select chapters and we are fortunate to have him make a stop in PEI!! We will be tasting a selection of wines from Groote Post and we have the chance to discuss these wines with Nick in a casual setting. Chef Antonio will be preparing light fare to complement each wine. While this will be a small plate format, Gina at Casa Mia has assured us there will be plenty of delicious food!
