An Evening with Nick Pentz - Discover South Africa Ottawa

Time

18:00

Place

Orange Art Gallery
290 City Centre Ave
Ottawa, Ontario

In partnership with the South African High Commission, we invite you to discover the incredible wines of South Africa. The evening will begin with a "mini" wine fair. Tasting stations will be set up with a selection of SA wines to sample during a reception. Mingle, taste, catch up and try some authentic "biltong". Hear from the South African High Commissioner, Sibongiseni Dlamini-Mntambo about the wonders of South Africa.

Following the reception, you will be treated to a 3-course dinner paired with wines from Groote Post. Nick Pentz, the owner, will walk us through a mouth-watering evening of delicious food and even more wonderful wines while he talks about the wine growing region, and vinification process that make Groote Post wines so unique.

Third and fourth generation dairymen, Nick and Peter Pentz run Groote Post, their vineyard in the Darling Hills on the Cape’s West Coast, approximately an hour’s drive north of Cape Town. It is a historic estate with a traditional Dutch gabled homestead dating back to 1808 and was originally a guarding post against cattle rustlers. The Pentz family originally owned a dairy business producing milk and delivering it direct-to-door in Cape Town. The family no longer have a dairy herd, but the 3000-hectare estate raises sheep and cattle, grows cereal crops and includes a restaurant, Hilda’s Kitchen, which serves their delicious homegrown produce. 117 hectares of vineyards are planted on cooler slopes on clay soils benefiting from the ocean breezes, with wines made by Lukas Wentzel.

Opimian is proud to count Groote Post among its producers since 2016 and to offer this exclusive event to its members!
