Burgundy produces some of the most expensive wines in the world, and they can be incredibly long-lived and complex. Burgundy is one of the trickiest wine regions to get to grips with. The good news is that there are affordable and delicious wines to be found. The key is the grower. There are small family-run vineyards with honest hardworking individuals dedicated to making quality wines. Their determination and endeavours can produce special wines. When you find a Burgundy that truly “sings”, it all falls into place. Five such family estates are featured in this Cellar Offering, with wines from the acclaimed 2016 and 2017 vintages, as well as the 2018, which I think is heading to be even better.
2018 is also being hailed an epic year across the Loire Valley. Even the oldest Loire winegrowers cannot remember a better harvest in terms of both quality and quantity. From Muscadet in the west across to Sancerre 360 kilometres to the east, via the vineyards of Angers and Tours, the wines are stunning. To complement these two so-called “marginal” climates, we present wines from the Languedoc and Corsica.
